The Phoncurves’ Savvy Seven

IMG_3674Brisbane two-piece The Phoncurves are getting quite the name for themselves. After supporting some of the country’s biggest acts in Josh Pyke, Thelma Plum, Patrick James, ASTA, Paper Kites and more, the band released their second EP “Heartstrings” through Create//Control in May 2014. Taking influences from indie pop, electro and soul, Naomi and Abbie as The Phoncurves have mesmerising harmonies and a live performance that stops audiences dead in their tracks. They recently dropped by to share some industry insight.

1. The best live music venues in my area are…

We love playing at Black Bear Lodge, it has a really nice atmosphere!

2. The music scene in Brisbane is…

There are so many great artists coming out of Brisbane. The live scene in Brisbane itself is on the up and up, there are a lot more venues opening.

3. My top tip for artists who self-manage is…

There is no point in rushing things, sometimes to wait for an opportune time is more beneficial.

4. In my opinion, the most important issue facing the music industry is…

There are now numerous avenues which enable artists to create music and share it, which is a great thing, but also means there is a saturation of music. It is exciting times and as artists, I think we need to role with it, use the opportunity to diversify and be creative in every aspect of our music.

5. When on the road, my favourite pit stops are…

The morning coffee fix at a local cafe, it puts a skip in your step and fuzzy tingles in your heart.

6. My biggest career mistake has been…

We make many mistakes but I think it’s less about the reminiscing on mistakes you make, cause we are all human and will continue to make mistakes, but it’s what you do to get back up that counts.

7. My best advice for emerging artists is…

As artists we are always looking to the next thing or looking back to what we have done, but we often forget to enjoy the now. Enjoy every step of the journey and remember the reason you started playing music in the first place.
