Grace Knight is one of the most enduring talents in Australian music. With Aria nominations and chart topping recordings in each of the past three decades, her career spans over thirty five years both as a solo artist and as part of classic Australian pop act Eurogliders.

Acclaimed for her live performances, Grace is one of the finest interpreters of popular music in Australia today. Knight’s spellbinding performances touch the soul and lift the heart. Her magical presence connects with audiences of all ages like few others can. As well as her gruelling schedule of live work and recording Grace recently made a guest appearance in the long running TV show, Neighbours. She is also an Ambassador for Heal For Life Foundation, an organisation that empowers people to heal from childhood trauma and abuse and is a patron to the Choir Of Hope And Inspiration (formerly Choir Of Hard Knocks).

Eurogliders new album “Don’t Eat the Daisies” featuring new songs and acoustic versions of their classic hits including “Heaven (Must Be There)” is in stores now.

1. The best live music venues in my area are…

The answer would depend on who I’m talking to. My answer would not be the same if I were chatting with another musician as compared to chatting with a music fan. Let’s pretend I’m chatting with a muso looking to get his/her name out there and get some gigs under their belt. The best live music venues would be anywhere that gave you a gig. A place where you can hone your skills, your performance. A place where you can test your songs on the audience to gain their reaction.

2. The music scene in Melbourne is…

Creative, healthy and inspiring.

3. My top tip for artists who self-manage is…

Do the Math. You’re a small business owner so make sure you understand how your business works. Set yourself some realistic goals and develop a plan to achieve those goals. Don’t be scared to pay for professional help when you need it… it’s false economy to think because you’re good at some things you’ll automatically be good at everything. Don’t sign anything you don’t completely understand.

4. In my opinion, the most important issue facing the music industry is…

I think it differs depending on what you do in the industry. For songwriters the emergence of streaming sites and the miserable royalty rate they pay is a huge issue… the obvious answer is for the owners of that music to come to a better arrangement for songwriters. On the whole I actually see more opportunities emerging with changes in the industry than problems… it’s never been cheaper to record music or make videos and there’s a multitude of new ways to get your music out and heard.

5. When on the road, my favourite pit stops are…

Places that know how to make espresso. Many places think frothy milk equals cappuccino…

6. My biggest career mistake has been…

Taking on a manager who was worse than hopeless, but I was obliged to pay him until our agreement lapsed. In effect I paid him to do nothing.

7. My best advice for emerging artists is…

Do all the gigs you can… there’s no substitute for getting in front of people and playing… playing in front of people who have no idea who you are or have never heard your songs teaches you how to work at winning over an audience and holding on to them.
