March 5 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm ESTFree
Following the launch of this year’s Song of the Year Competition presented by Act-Belong-Commit, WAM is excited to present a free Jazz Composition Masterclass for local musicians to develop their skills, engage with experts in the community, and learn something new in the lead up to Song of the Year 2020 presented by Act-Belong-Commit!
The Masterclass features two of Perth’s most highly regarded contemporary jazz composers and musicians, Gemma Farrell and Dr Mace Francis. The evening will explore the creative process of song-writing and composition, with Farrell and Mace sharing their experiences and discussing advice in the intimate and relaxed setting of Rhubarb Records, Leederville.
Audience Development Officer and masterclass co-ordinator, Em Burrows says of the event;
“This masterclass is a great opportunity ahead of WAM’s Song of the Year competition for people to broaden their understanding of jazz composition and to get practical tips for how to develop their ideas. Hopefully we’ll see even more amazing entries in the Jazz category of Song of the Year as a result!”
The Masterclass is free entry and open to all ages and skill levels. No previous experience or knowledge of jazz composition is required, with musicians and Industry practitioners from all areas welcome. This masterclass is brought to you with the support of our Song of the Year partner Act-Belong-Commit.
