Mentees will paired with a mentor to receive professional advice and guidance


Applications are now open for our Women in Music Mentorships program. We have expanded the scope of mentoring opportunities, and invite music creators from a range of genres, backgrounds and career stages to apply.

Whether you are starting out, returning to the industry or looking for advice on moving to the next level, you will be seriously considered for the program.

You can apply for one of the following mentorships; there are two positions per mentorship unless otherwise noted.

  • Popular/Contemporary music
  • Hip Hop/R&B/Rap/Soul
  • Electronic/Dance
  • Producer
  • Country (1 mentorship)
  • Musical Theatre (1 mentorship)
  • Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander
  • US-based member
  • UK/EU-based member

Who can apply?

APRA AMCOS members who identify as women or gender non-conforming music creators, and who feel they would benefit from a program designed for women in music. Previous participants include Annie Hamilton, Mookhi, Bri Clark, Demi Louise and more.

Why is mentoring important?

In 2017, we released research that identified the pathways and barriers for women working in music. This has led to our commitment to provide support to women through the development of programs to effect immediate and sustainable gender participation and equitable financial success for our female songwriter and composer members. The mentorship program is a key component of our commitment.

Each mentorship is offered for a three month period and mentees will receive some financial support over that time

How does the mentorship work?

For all mentorships, the mentee is paired with an established music creator or manager in the industry. The mentor will provide guidance and practical advice on projects the mentee already has underway.

Mentors will be matched to a mentee based on musical style and availability. You could be working with one of the following (not a final list):

Mentors commit to conducting six meetings over a three-month period.

This mentorship is open to applicants who:

  • are available to work in the timelines outlined above, and
  • can provide an example of their work

The mentee will receive $1,500 to cover any work-related expenses during the mentorship.
