A Session With Jen Cloher - Singer-Songwriter, MILK Records Label Co-Manager

You can find Jen's content in the following courses:

Jen Cloher is a self-managed independent artist based in Melbourne. After graduating from acting at NIDA, she decided to pursue a career in music. Her first album Dead Wood Falls was nominated for an ARIA for Best Female Artist. Her second album Hidden Hands was named as one of the top ten releases of 2009 by The AGE. It was also nominated for three AGE EG awards including Best Song and Best Album. Her third album In Blood Memory was shortlisted for The Australian Music Prize.

In 2011 Jen launched a fantastic series of workshops called I Manage My Music, specifically tailored to assist the self-managed artist. Guest speakers have included Wally De Backer (Gotye), Mick Harvey (Nick Cave/PJ Harvey), Carlo Santone (Blue King Brown), Fiona Kitschin and Gareth Liddiard (The Drones).

Jen is also one of the team behind the incredibly successful MILK Records label and she sat down with me in Melbourne recently to talk about the artist run label (MILK Records), and offered up some great advice for emerging artists and for starting up a record label.
